Note to people of faith:

This book is not an argument against religion or faith. If you can find comfort and moral motivation in faith, you are to be envied by those of us who cannot. We must travel a harder road that depends upon understanding rather than believing. If you choose to walk with us a while on our journey, you may notice familiar landmarks as we go, and you will find that we end up at something like the same destination. You may even find that this secular understanding reinforces the deep truths of your belief.
